neighbours

when we were kids
the summer
never seemed to end,
we chased
each other
round the plastic pool
and ran barefoot
through the meadow
every afternoon

I won't say
I miss it

we built planes
with cardboard,
our dreams
flew high,
there were no limits
for us to care about
except for bedtime

I won't say
I miss it

it was a perfect life
these summers
with careless fun
out in the open,
every night we played
our hide-and-seek
before the barbeque

I won't say
I miss it

I miss
you
